Modalities
A sneak peek into a couple of the therapeutic modalities I use

EMDR
-
Similar to physical therapy, but for the brain. It's hard work! And there can be after effects, such as; vivid dreams, exhaustion, alertness, introspection.
-
Focuses on a specific memory or symptom, connecting with the emotions, thoughts, and body sensations that are activated with that memory.
-
Uses bilateral stimulation, which activates the left and right side of your body. Allows processing of the past while engaging in the present moment.
-
Like sitting on a train (present therapeutic space), while looking out a window as the landscape (memories, thoughts, feelings) passes by.
*I completed my EMDR Basic Training from the Trauma Therapist Institute in Spring 2025
Internal Family Systems
-
The notion that we have parts of us that carry burdens
-
They can serve to protect us (protectors) or are parts that feel shame and we want to brush them off (exiles)
-
-
IFS focuses on working with these parts to unburdened them by integrating the Self
-
The Self, the part of us that we all have inside us, possesses the eight C's:
-
Confidence
-
Clarity
-
Curiosity
-
Calmness
-
Compassion
-
Courage
-
Creativity
-
Connectedness
-
-
The goal : being Self-led, having Self and parts live in harmony
-
I incorporate Parts work by itself and in EMDR
*I have taken training courses for IFS but have not received any certifications in this modality

"Walk and Talk" Therapy
Benefits:
-
Different scenery than your traditional session
-
Notion of "walking alongside" each other instead of face-to-face
-
Connecting with what is around you & moving energy out of the body while mindfully disconnecting from what is going on inside of you
-
Creating Place Attachment- a place to associate with calmness, safety, to come back to in your mind if you are feeling dysregulated in other environments
Risks:
-
Confidentiality- we are in a public space
-
Weather
-
Will discuss more in detail if W/T therapy is a fit for you!
